MODEL QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

            The bidding proceeds:

            N         E          S          W

            1S        2C

At this point North stops the auction and calls the Director.   She explains that she never intended to bid 1S, and that the bid was inadvertent.  What is your ruling for each of the following hands and why?

            a)         Ax                                               b)      Akxx

                        KQTxx                                                  AKJxx

                        Jxxx                                                       Qx

                        Kx                                                         Qx

ANSWER

a)         The bid is clearly inadvertent as it bears no relation to the hand. As South has not yet called the bid may be changed without penalty. (Law 25A). East can change his call, and any information arising from this is authorised to EW but not to NS (deemed the offending side) refer Law 16C.

b)         This is a mistake. Therefore Law 25A does not apply.  As East has called, Law 25B does not apply. The auction stands as it is. EW are requested to call the Director at the end of the hand if they consider they have been damagedby the incident. Law 16.
